On March 22, 1987, the first business meeting was held to establish a new church in the East Valley. With 42 adults and 17 children in attendance, Christ Church of the Son Valley was formed and a new and exciting ministry began in the Valley of the Sun.
The first official worship service was held on April 19, 1987 (Easter Sunday) with 192 people in worship attendance. The following month (May, 1987) the charter was signed with 129 members and Christ Church of the Son Valley was officially a church body.
Without church building and property to call their own, the newly formed congregation met in homes, and later progressed to a school and a fraternal order hall. Christ Church of the Son Valley purchased their present property on McLellan Street in August of 1987. In December of 1987, more than 40 members began construction on the present church building, and on March of 1988, the first service was held in the new building – with a 130 people in attendance. God blessed the faithfulness of those who kept the Vision of reaching this community for Christ. Praise Him!
On August 24, 2003, the congregation voted overwhelmingly to change the church’s name to Boulder Mountain Christian Church. They felt the connection with the Boulder Mountains that surround the church, and the Boulder Mountain Community developments, helped them identify with the people they served. This gave the church greater ministry and outreach opportunity. So, the name was enthusiastically changed and the new Boulder Mountain Christian Church was warmly received in the community it serves.
The first pastors of Boulder Mountain Christian Church were Jim & Doug Simpson, who ministered to the congregation and community until their retirement in July of 1993. Through the leadership of various pastors, who led with a passion for the lost and love for His people, the church climbed many hurtles and worked diligently through difficult trials. Boulder Mountain Christian Church extends their deepest appreciation for those men who have given their hearts in service to God and His Kingdom’s work.
Pastor Mark Ellington joined our fellowship in August of 2007 as Interim Pastor. During this time, the church voted, overwhelmingly, to extend the position of Senior Pastor to Mark and his family. On October 28, 2007, Pastor Mark accepted the position and we anticipate, without reservation, for God to bless and move this congregation into the next stage of church growth through his leadership
